The Matai or ‘chief’ of each local village is responsible for looking over the land and the people who reside there, as well as ensure their village is self sufficient and continues to maintain order.
Although aspects of the traditional culture have changed due to interactions with the West, many aspects of the Fa’a Samoa (way of life) still thrive today.
