Dialectic North aims to distort and dismantle all notions of what is true north, by offering numerous scenes within each image to occupy our mind. Each scene provides a path of confused exploration, disrupting perceptions of direction and dimension.
Spending time isolated from normality has induced an attraction to portraying landscapes as unrecognisable figures, resulting in an arresting body of ethereal works.
The effects of time and the construction of reality are motifs often associated with Bannehr’s works. He uses a range of imagery, which attempts to lead us to a place not formally recognisable, but one that sits in a veil between worlds. Bannehr’s recent works evoke a sense of instability and question where and how such spaces could exist.
Dialectic North was exhibited @ Special Group Studios (Surry Hills) in Septembet 2017 in collaboration with The North Journal, and Bannehrs first solo exhibition.
